Transatlantic Exchange Partnership Resources
The primary purpose of the project is to provide graduate students in Quantum Information Processing with transatlantic study and internship opportunities. This experience will give students a chance to take courses and to participate in research projects not available locally. The target number of student exchanges is 36 over three years. The result of the project will be counted towards the project or thesis requirements of the degree programs at their home institution. Any intellectual property (IP) generated during a student exchange will be subject to the IP policies of the home and host institutions and the sponsor(s) of the exchange, unless a separate agreement is signed. Policy 73 describes the IP rights at the University of Waterloo. How to Apply
The home institution will recruit and nominate students for the exchange on the basis of their own criteria and criteria developed in collaboration with the other institutions. Selection criteria include good academic standing, that all program admission requirements or equivalent are satisfied with respect to the host institution, and the availability of a suitable internship supervisor. Applications are accepted throughout the year, depending upon the academic term at the host institution. We suggest applying at least three months in advance of the proposed exchange. Applications include a recent CV, academic transcripts, a letter of reference, and a study plan. These materials may be submitted via the online form. Once an incoming exchange student is approved by the exchange directors at both institutions to come to U. Waterloo, she is required to complete an application with the UW graduate studies office. Note that the $100 fee mentioned on the application form is waived for exchange students. No English test results are required. Students should make sure they select "Transatlantic Exchange - Home" in the program details section. Outgoing students from UW will be informed of the procedure at the host EU institution upon acceptance. Course Information
Courses in the Canadian institutions will be taught in English. Courses in EU countries can be taught in English at the request of at least one student. Language training courses in the relevant language are available at all partner institutions. Courses offered will be kept up-to-date and new ones will be developed at partner institutions through faculty interactions. Course offerings at IQC can be viewed here. Courses
Students coming to UW may register for any offering; see UW's schedule of courses: for links to important information related to taking courses (graduate or undergraduate). To view which courses are scheduled in a particular term go to:

Student Scholarships:
Students will remain registered at the home institution during an exchange. They will be provided a scholarship prior to the exchange that provides for round trip airfare, local transportation, visa related expenses, and a monthly stipend. University of Waterloo International Student Resources
The International Student Office advises students on matters such as orientation, visa requirements, English language preparation, health insurance, housing, etc. They run several helpful programs, such as the English Tutor Program and the Shadow Program. The Student Handbook is a handy guide to help students prepare for their stay in Waterloo. Help with both on-campus housing and off-campus housing is available through the university. |
