Chris Erven
PhD Student
Institute for Quantum Computing
Biography Chris received his B.A.Sc. in Honours Co-op Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo in April 2005. In addition to completing the engineering undergraduate degree, he also completed an Option inPhysics. This eventually led him to the field of quantum computing, a unique blend of physics and engineering. Chris joined the IQC in April 2005, and is now working towards his M.Sc. in Physics under Prof. Gregor Weihs doing experimental free-space quantum key distribution. He is looking forward to completing his Masters in the winter of 2007 and continuing on into a PhD programme under Prof. Gregor Weihs at the IQC. In addition to the experimental physics, Chris would like to expand his background and get into some fundamental theoretical physics as well. Chris grew up in Toronto, Ontario. In addition to his academics, Chris has been a part of the University of Waterloo's Varsity Badminton Team for seven years. This past year he was the head coach of the Varsity Team. He is also on the IQC's All-Star Recreational Volleyball team. Research
