Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Government of Canada has unveiled the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships Program, worth $70,000 per year over two years. Applicants should express their interest in applying by directly contacting their proposed IQC faculty supervisor. If there is mutual interest, the applicant should work with his or her proposed faculty supervisor to apply for the fellowship. Read more here.
Open Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Institute for Quantum Computing is inviting applications for postdoctoral positions in all aspects of quantum information processing, bridging areas from fundamental theory to physical implementations. Quantum information science and technology aims to develop applications and devices that will harness the quantum world and lead to technologies that will form the economic engine of the 21st century. IQC is a world-leading institute for research and education in quantum information at the University of Waterloo. It has, at present, 17 faculty members who lead thriving research programs spanning the departments of Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Combinatorics and Optimization, Computer Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Physics and Astronomy. IQC seeks promising candidates to help advance our understanding of the foundations of quantum information, to develop new quantum applications and algorithms, to implement these ideas in laboratory experiments and engineered systems and to transfer this knowledge to industry. A Ph.D. and proven ability, or strong potential, for excellence in research is required. IQC members also have the opportunity to interact with scientists at the nearby Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, and UW's Centre for Applied Cryptographic Research. The preferred deadline for receiving applications is November 15th, 2010, but late applications may be considered until positions are filled. Postdoctoral Fellowship on Quantum Circuits
The Institute for Quantum Computing seeks outstanding candidates interested in or conducting research in the areas of quantum circuit synthesis and optimization, quantum algorithm design, and quantum circuit architectures. A strong mathematical background, and a proven ability for excellence in research are required. Strong programming skills in languages such as C/C++, and an interest in developing code are essential. The research is envisioned to bridge the gap between high-level quantum algorithms and implementations on a concrete physical platform. Successful candidates will be embedded into an interdisciplinary and international team including engineers, computer scientists, and physicists and will have a unique opportunity to collaborate with academic and government agencies, and industry. The preferred deadline for receiving postdoctoral applications is November 15th, 2010, but late applications may be considered until positions are filled. Applications will be processed as they are received, and early submissions are strongly encouraged.
